A little tune -up

Hello, Blog family! We have been enjoying our heart-stable status here for 12 years, but alas, the time has come for a Heart Cath. It is scheduled for Tuesday, November 26. We ask you to unite with us in prayers, good vibes, happy thoughts and shouts to the universe for Sevs's health, safety, and the keen skills of those performing his case.

Sev has been feeling some symptoms of his bummed heart for about a year. I have been letting him take ownership of his health more and more over the past few years. This is very hard for a mom! But I know it will benefit him in the long run, it is HIS body. I watched him slow down, waiting for him to decide it was time to get checked out. We were able to move his yearly cardiology appointment from Dec to Oct. As Sev and Dr. Su discussed how he is feeling, echo, etc it was decided he would benefit from going to the cath lab for a little tune-up. When Sev was 2 he had a stent placed in his left pulmonary artery. He has since outgrown this stent. Sev was visibly nervous, and hesitant, Dr. Su says 'think about it and text me later' Always so impressed with his Drs. Sev did a lot of research, we had a lot of frank conversations, and looking at the schedule he decided the week of Thanksgiving break would be the best time. Let's just note Thanksgiving has been his traditional time to be in the hospital. The Glenn, Heart Cath, The Fontan... The goal of this procedure is to open or replace the stent, to gather solid data about his heart valve anatomy, his synthetic plumbing, and the pressures in his heart. We hope this will give him back his energy, blood flow, and oxygenation. We will have a sleepover at the hospital for observation. Needless to say, this brings up a lot of emotions for all of us, we are exercising grace and patience with each other as we navigate this new what-if.
